Setting Up Bing Webmaster Tools for Your Blog

[This post is part of the Ultimate Guide to Launching a WordPress-Powered Blog series.]

Now that you’ve finished setting up Google’s Webmaster Tools you’ll want to also register to Microsoft’s Bing search engine as well!

It’s just as easy and simple so let’s get started:

1. Head to Bing’s Webmaster Tools

Head over to Bing’s Webmaster Tools and sign in!

2. Sign In, Create Windows Live ID User

Many of you may have to create a Windows Live User ID.  Go ahead and create an account and log in.

3. Add Site via Bing Dashboard

Go ahead and click the “Add Site” button.

4. Add URL to Track

Go and add your site address in the pop-up box.

5. Verify Ownership

Just like you did with Google’s Webmaster Tools, you’ll want to verify the ownership.

6. Choose Option 2: <meta> Tag

Go ahead and choose Option 2 and use the <meta> tag. Copy this.

7. Copy and Paste <meta> Info into WordPress Theme

As you can see I’m going to paste it into the header.php file just like I did with Google Webmaster Tools:

Then hit “Update File”!

8. Confirm Verification

Head back to the Bing Webmaster Tools and click “Verify”.

9. Success!

If you are a success you’ll find yourself staring at the blank dashboard.

Congratulations! You’ve added your site to the Bing Webmaster Tools system. We’ll cover some more details on what to do after it starts pulling data a little bit later!

You’re set!

    I have become google-centric.

I never even considered that other search engines would have tools like this.

    Thanks, John. You’re my hero.
