10 Tips for Blog Post Madness

Climbing a Pile of Files

The last couple weeks have been extremely busy for me in almost all aspects of my life. One part that I’ve really enjoyed is the fine-tuning of my blogging strategies and the cleansing of my productivity for posting. I thought I’d share some tidbits:

1. I Write Stuff.

I write a lot. In fact, I blog more than I ever publish on any given day. I respect the blogging Muse.

2. Kill Distractions.

I need to work on this better, but when I actually sit down to blog I turn off Twitter. Yes. I actually fully log off. If you’ve got distractions, kill ‘em.

3. Email Insanity.

I’m trying to do more of this but I need to check email far less than I do. I’ve got notifiers telling me every single time a new email pops… No. That’s a bad idea.

4. RSS Skills are Epic.

I’m finally at a place where my Google Reader is situated and all my RSS feeds are in order. I can blaze through literally hundreds of posts in mere seconds. Learn the short-cuts and you’ll toast it up.

5. Batch Work Works.

There are many things that I do throughout the day. I’ve learned to “bucket” them and process them together. One example is replying to comments. There are times where I’ll get a huge cache of over 100 comments to respond to. That’s ok, I’ve already set aside an hour on Friday to respond. Let those notifications slide.

6. The Moleskine is Hawt.

I use my Moleskine more than ever now. It’s my base of operations. It contains everything that’s vital for blogging survival. It’s my cache, my treasure, my resource. And I can carry it wherever I go, even when I’m not online. Booya.

7. Drowning in RSS Feeds.

In addition to maxing my RSS skills I’ve also eliminated subscriptions that are simply unimportant, even if they were interesting. Every second counts. Spring cleaning time.

8. Drafting is Still Cool.

I draft. A lot. Obviously. Let it sink. There are times where I know what I want to blog about but I can’t blog it. Strange, but true. Let it sit. Marinate on it. Then come back.

9. Schedule is Everything.

Period.

10. Prayer

I’m spending more time in prayer about my blogging than ever before. This one’s the big one.
