A Good Start in Dallas – Twitter Hooked Me Up

Today, I had the opportunity to hang out with Rhett (@rhetter) and Drew (@surferdrew) today after I touched down into Dallas.

What’s so great about all of this is that Rhett has become a great friend of mine over the last couple months… and this was the first time we have been able to meet up in the real world.

You see, our relationship started on Twitter.  Read more and see more pics after the jump.

They picked me up and we headed out to get some grub at Cafe Brazil.  Unlimited coffee, an amazing meal, and candid, fun, and challenging conversations about technology, web, and theology.

This is what community is all about, and what’s so great is that it felt as natural as hanging out with a long time friend.

Twitter has made the world smaller.  It has created relationships that I would never have been able to have created and built bridges that could have never been built.

After hanging out and chowing down we headed back to his digs and then headed out to Irving Bible Church where we had a great time of worship and teaching and then had communion.

Just think about this: Could you imagine feeling comfortable having communion with someone you just “met” physically for the first time and worshipping and praising (you know how awkward it can be during praise… you know what I’m talking about…).

Then met up with another Twitter dude (@johndyer).  It just doesn’t stop!

It was awesome.  What a great first day in Dallas.  Now I need to find a good breakfast burrito.

  1. twitter rocks. I have got to talk to a ton of folks about life, parenting and my latest is finding more how to's for illustrator from all my tweets. I would be lost with out twitter!

  2. Well Actually I do know how it feels. I met my wife online, so I know the feeling of having a relationship online, and then meeting that person for the first time. It’s pretty amazing when you can see the connection that God has made.

  3. I have decided that Twitter and the blog world are the best things to happen to me in building community. Although my community is small at the moment, I am confident that I will see it grow tremendously in 2009. I'm glad you are a part of it :-)

  4. Sounds/looks like you guys had an awesome time! Seeing that food is making me hungry now…

Saw a comment on Twitter last week that read: "Facebook is about people you used to know; Twitter is about people you'd like to know better" – Ivor Tossel (via @LeroyJames)

  5. i heart twitter. it's how i landed my job. i, like you, have also found amazing irreplaceable friends via twitter. in fact, one of them is flying out to visit in may.
