I told my mom today that I blog a lot, and that I have some blogs that get “traffic” and that it’s possible to even make money blogging.

She nodded politely and then said: “Yeah, that’s nice, until it’s not big anymore.”

My gut reaction was to say something to the affect of: “Uh, mom… Blogs aren’t going anywhere…!”

But, she was right. Blogs are just one of the newer forms of communication. They will probably not be around forever. In fact, what it did was kill me to think about how I need to continually innovate and make sure that I’m ahead of the technological curve.

Thanks mom. You’re right. I can’t bank on blogging, just as I can’t bank on Twitter, Facebook, or anything else technologically. It’s gotta be something more.

Sounds like something that would go well with the Flickering Pixels idea. I wonder what will be next after blogs…

I agree with mom…at least the part about staying ahead of the curve. However, there have been some communication vehicles that have stood the test of time. The phone for example. It has had some overhauls but, the idea of talking to someone audibly in real-time across distances is still pretty amazing.

Google Wave seems to be appropriating the future of instant, published communications. But, I definitely think you should fight the micro-blogging trend– write a book!
