Buy a Shirt, Feed an Orphan: Moju Project

October 19, 2009

mojuproject

My buds over at the Moju Project are doing some awesome things with their organization; it is truly a very simple concept: Buy a shirt and it’ll feed an orphan for a month.

I dig it. In fact I’ve had more than one person ask me about the organization when I’ve worn the shirt because it is generally a very cool and unique idea.

They sent me a few shirts a little while back and want to spread the love even more by giving away some shirts here! 3 randomly chosen winners (via the comments) will be chosen.

All you have to do is answer this question:

What is one thing that God has either taught or shown you in 2009 that you will take forward with you into 2010?

Ready? Go!

Thanks so much Moju Project for all that you’re doing. You’re making a difference one shirt at a time.

  1. I made you for a purpose that you may not understand, please trust that I have your best interest at heart.

  2. God has taught me that just when I think I have myself figured out, I actually have no idea who I am or where I'm going which is both scary and comforting, in a weird way. I will go into 2010 with a determination to dive even deeper into the depths of my humanity.

  3. Patience is needed when dreaming

  4. one of best ways I can spread my influence is through social media.

  5. That every day is a new chance to become more like Christ.

  6. Step outside your comfort zone and see how amazing he is. Our time here is short and we need to take every opportunity to spread God's word.

  7. It's been a long year for us as a family, but not for any particular reason, just because life is hard. My marriage has been struggling but today a good friend came by and talked with me. We shared and worshiped together, but she also helped challenge me in regards to my marriage. My husband and I are both struggling with different things and with each other. It feels like we're having the same argument every week and just at a standstill. So, while talking to my friend today, God gave me this:

"Submission is not giving-in first, it's being the first to give."

I have a feeling this will still be kicking my butt in 2010.

God desires us to reflect His character in everything that we say & do. God wants to transform us from the inside out, not simply for ourselves, but for His glory : that we may share His nature with others…thus revealing His love, His grace, His mercy, His power, His healing, His deliverance, etc. We must prepare ourselves daily, for we know not the hour nor the day when Christ will return…and I so desire to hear those words on that fateful day: "Well done, My good & faithful servant".

  9. God has shown me that the most important thing I can do for a friend is to share Jesus with them. Doesn't matter if you're afraid of harming the relationship, hurting the person's feelings, or bringing up painful memories. If you love that person, you need to bring the Gospel to them.

  10. God has taught me (in more ways than one) that pain is a prerequisite for healing. So, I'm trying to remember that when things really really suck….easy enough, right? ;)

  11. God has taught me to really appreciate my health, be strong even through the hard times, and befriend people who no one seems to have the time of day for…they are people too that needs loving and a good friend! :)

  12. I'm learning how big a difference a kind word or simply a smile can make in someone's life… Often times just a friendly "hi" or "great seeing you" can make someone's day. When I'm checking out at the local grocery store I try to ask the cashier and the bagger how their day is going….etc

I think just remembering that we carry Christ everywhere we go makes you change the way you look at and interact with people.

  13. Being persistent coupled with pressing through discomforts can lead to more than I can ever dream.

  14. God showed me in 2009 through a community that met 24-7 to pray that sitting with Him in prayer, instead of running around constantly busy and not feeling His presence, is so joyful and so life-giving, and that meeting with Him in our own secret hidden times with Him really fuels everything I do, including transforming the world with His love! I'm so excited to take that into 2010.

  15. God has been teaching me about His holy inspiration, the way He moves us and guides us. For example, at some point, the people who started Moju were undoubtedly inspired by the significant need of others to begin an answer to end that need. He uses our situation and some revelation (the divine variety) to give us inspiration. It's up to us to BE INSPIRED!

  16. Ironically considering this post, God has taught me about His heart for the poor and injustice in a way that I knew intellectually before, but experienced firsthand on a trip to Rwanda in February. I think that's definitely one thing that will be going with me into 2010 and beyond.

  17. God has shown me to appreciate trials. It is in overcoming trials that he seems to teach me the most.
He is also preparing me to be a father. in the 2nd month of 2010 my wife and I are having a baby (no we dont know if it is a boy or a girl). He is showing me and prepping me to become a father (which right now seems like a daunting task), he is showing me patience, selflessness, and how NOT to parent haha.
So 2010 is going to be all about fatherhood.
    LORD PLEASE TEACH ME!!!

  18. When God breaks you down, even though you're still messed up and trying to figure out life, He is preparing you for what's next. Get ready.

  19. That when life is hard count it as joy. Endure. Because through this type of endurance comes maturity.

  20. God has shown me that the Torah is filled with valid commandments from the Lord, that we'd be blessed to follow.
Also, on another note… That there is always hope. No matter what is taken from us or how bad this life can get. We have eternal hope with Jesus, and nothing to fret here in this world.

  21. I lost my job at the end of the summer and a short time after that my apartment. Through all of life's recent trials I have been deeply humbled, I know that I cannot do it alone and that He is always going to take you through what seems to be the darkest times. Going into 2010 I will take this years trials as stepping stones for greater things to come and keep it as a reminder that He is in control of everything, if you let Him take the wheel you will be able to do great things. Thank you Jesus!

    • I am in a similar boat, sister, but I know that God sees the whole picture and usually we have a hard time looking past where we are now. He is doing things in us that are eternal during our trying times. You’re right, He is in control and through everything He allows to happen God works all things for the good of those who love Him who have been called according to His purposes. EVERYTHING!!

  22. Quit complaining and be thankful! Even though my husband doesn’t have a job right now and we are living with the in-laws, I still have a roof over my head, food every meal to eat, heat, clothes, warm shower, stove to cook on , refrigerator that has food in it, friends, family, and the blessings go on and on. I could be like someone else out there who lives in a cold box and eats out of the dumpster, but I am not. Thank you, God. I could live in Pakistan or Iraq or some war zone where I fear for my life every day, but I am not. Thank you, God. I could live in North Korea or Yemen where I have no freedom to worship or love my God, but I don’t. Thank you, God. Above all, I have salvation to look forward to forever through my Savior Jesus! Thank you, Jesus.

  23. Hey All!

We just wanted to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who participated in our contest! John- you rock! Thanks for all of your support!

The Moju Project is about empowering people to use what they have been given to make a difference! “Changing the world, by changing the way we shop!” (all for God’s glory!)

    THANKS AGAIN!!!
