We did it. We finally did it. I cannot simply believe it.
Last night I signed the very last check in terms of my family’s financial “debt” situation. We are now 100% completely free from all forms of debt.
We owe absolutely nothing to any institution or person.
The feeling is somewhat euphoric, but it’s tempered with a touch of subtle grace reminding me that it’s only through the Lord (and His messengers like Matt Carter and Andy Stanley) that has gotten us to this place.
It’s His Mercy in our lives… completely undeserved. And it feels great.
It couldn’t come at a better time. It couldn’t have come any sooner or later. This is the right time, as many things are. We aren’t a perfect family when it comes to our personal finances, but we’re taking small steps in the right direction, and we’re trusting God will do the rest.
Freedom. Galatians 5:1.

This is amazing!
Until recently, my husband and I remained debt-free. Now we are caught in the vortex of seminary amidst job cutbacks, lessened financial help, and raised tuition. I've been on the job hunt for over a month now, and only received ONE response… Last night we prayerfully decided to turn down the offer because we'd rather face student loans than have me work for a company that we feel is morally/ethically questionable.
Today, my conscience is clear…
Today, I'm trusting that God will honor our decision to stand by His morals…
Today, I'm looking forward to whatever God is gonna do to get us out of this mess we're in.
Congrats! I am in a situation of more debt than I would like, so I know how you feel and how relieved you must be. Praise God, as He gets us through those trials where we cannot even see the end.
you can do it too…! i'm behind you, and He is too.
Congrats John!… happy for you. I'm sure it is a great sense of freedom. Our family is still working on it. Gives us strength to know the goal is attainable.
that is AWESOME, john+family! i'm very very happy for you all!!! now just wait and see how God blesses you now that you have the freedom to DO so much more for his kingdom.
thanks! i'm super excited…!;)
Wow, not many people can say that.
That is truly a God thing to be able to achieve.
And so right you are when you twittered Praise Him.
Dude! Awesome! I can't wait til we are out of debt!
it'll be the day man… you got it!
Congratulations! My wife and I are on the same journey, though closer to the beginning then the end! Kudos!
It is a grand feeling isn't it? Knowing you are on a pay as you go basis is a freedom to be savored.
Congrats, my wife and I have been debt free for a couple months now and it is a great feeling, we wouldn't go back for anything.
NEVER going back to it. for real.
H3:Praise God! I remember when my wife and I were able to do this back in 2005. The only debt I have now is the mortgage and to me that is more of an investment. That is very good news to share in this economy.
AWESOME! congratulations! how did you do it?
lots of prayer, and lots of life-style change… never giving up on God to provide.
Dude, so proud of you guys – awesome!
word up. now to be “productive” with tony school.
AWESOME!!! congrats!

Way to go! That's awesome!
Good place to be, especially in the current situation!
for sure… it couldn't come at a better time, especially in my marriage.
I love it! Grace is amazing isn't it?
Your story is very encouraging and gives me great hope to be posting that same post in a few years!
YOU GOT IT! do it!:) behind you all the way.
Congratulations! Every time I hear someone say this it helps me to stay disciplined to get myself out of debt. Thanks for sharing. I also can't wait to hear how life seems different being out of debt in the coming months!
hehe. it may just be “the same”… but who knows! i think there's so much more work to be done… excited to get to this “point”… keep pressing brother!

Color me impressed! I KNOW it wasn't easy for you both. I KNOW you've made challenging decisions. I KNOW it's easy to read this and think, wow lucky them. Or wow, God blessed them. But…
I also KNOW that you deserve recognition for being diligent and obedient. You could have easily given up, or never even started. And you didn't. And you did. I think that made sense. Anyway. Without further ado…
::: Standing Ovation :::
Good job to you both.

thanks dude. i miss you. let's hang out.
SchweeeeT!
Thanks man! it is pretty sweet.
thanks dude. He's truly good.
WOW! that's so powerful of a testimony! God is Good… He's with you all the way. tahnsk for sharing that mandy!
dude, i'm with you bro. rock it! it's possible…!
for sure.
That's awesome John! My family is on the path right now. It is not easy for us so I can imagine what seeing it through to the end has taken for your family. We have adopted The "Give, Save, Live on the rest" approach that Andy Stanley has preached (and is preaching again now). Seeing God at work in our lives once we cast of the "me, me, me" mentality that got us into debt in the first place had been amazing.
I'm proud of you guys and love seeing how God has blessed you.
Peace,
Bubba
dude, thanks man. encouraging…! love it. andy is the best.
This is very exciting. We have a long way to go here…mortgages are expensive things, and unemployment last year knocked us around, but God has us under His wing, and our faith and His grace will get us to the same place you are in. I can't wait – but I know I'll have to. It's great to read of others breaking free though – very very encouraging! Bless you.
you got it man…! i'm behind you!
Dude this is awesomeness1 I know I'm late on this one, but God is going to bless you guys in big ways out of this!
Thanks brad, thanks for the encouragement!
i need to get debt free too.
