Roenne. 5.

My first born turns the big 5 today. Good night… time is flying by!

I found an old blog post that was published the day after she was born which contained some baby meta information:

  1. Name:  Roenne Easter Saddington
  2. Birthday:  10.12.2006
  3. Time:  3:47pm
  4. Weight:  7 pounds
  5. Height:  20.5 inches
  6. Hobbies:  Sleeping and drinking white stuff.
  7. Dislikes:  Loud people who try to touch me all the time and tell me that I’m cute; I know that already!
  8. Time Bandit:  Crying…
  9. Loves:  OmmaBear & AppaBear~!

I remember this day like it was yesterday and it scares me how she’ll be 10 as soon as she became 5. Someone please tell me time slows down…?

Prepare Enrich

This may surprise you but I’m now certified as a Prepare Enrich counselor. This is a program that many use for marriage counseling, premarital counseling, enrichment, mentoring, and education.

I’m not sharing this information to brag (I have very little to brag about in terms of my “husband excellence” rating) or to necessarily solicit couples looking for help – I was just interested in hearing people’s thoughts about it and/or experiences.

We all could use a little help with our marriages…!

Hard Worker vs You’re Smart

Fun.

I’ve always been told that I’ve been a “hard worker” by my parents, especially my father. I can remember explicitly his words ringing in my ears as I built legos, erector sets, lincoln logs and more.

But I also heard these words as I built products and businesses. Sure, my father’s expertise in legos was much greater than parsing syntax and seeing the “work” required to compile code instead of connect a pneumatic pump to a lego set – but the praise was the same.

I never wondered about the impact of praising work until I had children of my own. But, the importance of what we praise is equally important – so important that I think I’m going to spend more explicit time being explicit with what I say to mine.

I want them to be fearless when it comes to trying new things, not just because they are seeking praise from their father but because they enjoy the challenge of fear. Telling them they’re smart is not enough – telling them they’ve worked hard, regardless of outcome, needs to be apparent.

My dad did this and so will I.

Full Time IT Nerd, Geek

I’m looking to hire a rockstar full-time IT Nerd (that’s the official job title… kinda.) for one of the businesses that I lead.

Here are some of the qualifications that I’m looking for:

  1. If I ask you to build me a Windows or OSX Server you wet your pants with excitement.
  2. Deploying, managing, and troubleshooting phone lines to wifi networks to my staff’s mobile needs sounds like a dream come true.
  3. Being a help-desk and end-user technology support technician (hardware and software) makes you giddy.
  4. You spend your lunch hours reading blogs about IT infrastructure while tweaking fan units just for fun.
  5. You know what a CRM is and don’t mind doing a bit of business analyst work to find the best one.
  6. Inventory management? Psh. You do that in your sleep.
  7. You like people as much as you do computers… almost. Just kidding.
  8. When I say “I need a long RJ-45″ you giggle (because you know what I mean).
  9. You don’t mind working odd hours (and long hours) as long as you have the freedom to do so the way that you want.
  10. You’re a geek, in every sense of the word. You don’t mind being called a nerd either.
  11. You can tactically deploy new systems today but you also don’t mind leading others and building strategy for the future.
  12. If I ask you to go out and buy me 10 Macbook Pros you don’t ask me when or why – you ask me specs and if I want wireless mice with them (with service agreements).
  13. When I say “I like Clouds.” you say “Do you want me to build one?”

If you’re seriously interested please email me ASAP with a resume and a few lines convincing me that you’re awesome: johns@boosterthon.com

I promise lots of work, lots of fun, and money.
