Year of the Wife – For Men Only – Women Have Computer Brains

Please oh please… someone of the female persuasion… tell me this is TRUE!

Chapter 3 of the For Men Only book says that many women consider their “thought lives” like “busy computers”…

Is this true?  Because if it is, then this may be the greatest source of information that I could have possibly learned about my wife (and women in general).

Why?  Because this speaks to me in my language. Quote:

Their thought lives are almost like busy computers with multiple windows open and running all at once… … This female multitasking of thoughts and feelings impacts how your wife or girlfriend relates to you every single day…!

Really? I mean, REALLY?!? The book goes on to postulate from their surveys:

  1. Most women juggle multiple thoughts and feelings at the same time.
  2. About half of all women have stored thoughts or feelings from the past that regularly pop up into active mode whether they want them to or not.
  3. Women seem consistently unable to close these windows as easily as men can.

There’s even more goodness as the chapter progresses, but this chapter #3 is illuminating because I think in terms of computers and computer programs all the time.  To think that my wife has difficulty “shutting and closing down” the applications running on her desktop (mind) is easy to understand.

In fact, I sympathize.  In fact, I empathize.  In fact, I understand that frustration.  That sucks. Attempting the battle for a clean desktop is something I do daily in my tech life, but not something I do in my wife’s thought life.

*SMACK*

This chapter seriously rocks.

  1. It is true. Adamantly true. The best thing you can do is ASK HER what those windows contain, and then ONLY fix the ones that are ACTUALLY IN YOUR CONTROL :)

  2. I could have told you that.

The book calls it multi-tasking. I call it overclocking. Or maybe that's just my fiance…

  3. ooh great analogy! i would agree… we're constantly juggling multiple windows, and even though some are "minimized" temporarily, they're still there. and yes, sometimes they just pop up when we don't want them to, so we need help dealing with the content in order to close and get rid of it for good.

  4. Totally true. Might I also add that once a window has been dealt with and closed, there's no guarantee it will stay closed permanently. It's like we have this crazy virus that opens up windows without our consent.

  5. That is a great way to explain my brain that I never would've come up with. I completely agree with the comment that we have a virus that involuntarily opens windows that we thought were long closed…and even deleted.

  6. Wow great thoughts! I compared my computer desktop (which is always the cleanest thing on my computer, I can't work without a clear background) with my wife's (which is the opposite of mine) too true! Thanks for that little gem, my mind is already churning…

  7. I completely agree with the book! At times it is a blessing because we can accomplish twice as many tasks in a day than our male counterparts. However, on the down side, we are never in 'sleep mode', so we are therefore always tired and feel the pressure of the 'To Do List'. Maybe now Leo can understand when I appear to be listening to him but can't recall afterward what he said.

    • Listening? Hmm, I think Chele just said something, but I cannot quite figure it out. Maybe I will recall later. ;)

I definitely have to get this book. I think this is the first time she has actually said "I completely agree with the book". I have some catching up to do if I am going to be a better husband like H3.

  8. Yes, this is very true. It is rare to have only one window open at a time. One of my best guy friends is reading this book too, so he is constantly texting me: "Is this true?" Haha! This was the chapter that clicked for him too. He's a huge computer guy. I'm sending him a link to this post; he will enjoy it just as much as I have.
