Smashing Magazine Guest Post: WordPress as a Business

I had the pleasure of guest posting over at Smashing Magazine today covering a topic that is near and dear to my heart: WordPress!

It was a 4,000+ word post which highlights how some of the better known WordPress Theme Shops use a model of service and support to engage their existing audience as well as attract new clients and buyers.

    Great post John! Very exhaustive! It’s mind boggling, the fees, some of the themes charge for their support. Grateful, ST support is free. The community around the 8bit products is phenomenal. No, this isn’t about the article. But this is my takeaway after reading the post in Smashing Magazine….work with what works best for you.

    Support and Community is everything.

    As a newbie to WordPress, and themes shops, I found out the hard way that there are many ticket salesmen in this business.

    Once they sell you the ticket, they don’t care what happens next. They don’t care if the bus breaks down because they already made their money.

    The pilot on the other hand, has a vested interest in getting you to your destination. The pilot is right there with you during your journey. That is why I use your product(s). Because 8BIT is the pilot.

    That may sound corny, but it’s so true. Great article man!

        It’s definitely coming through. I’ve used several different theme shops (actually asked for my money back from one of them) and none of them compare in any way to the support behind your products. That’s not me being a fanboy. That’s me telling an unbiased truth.

        I know nothing about coding. At all.

        The fact that I have built and altered several websites solely with the help of you guys and the 8BIT forums is incredible really.

      Thanks for the compliments! I could not agree more. Every member of the support team has contributed code to our products. We take full ownership of our work, and then some. I wrote a little about that here:

      You’ll have to swim through the good natured ribbing to get to it. Lampooning John is sort of a hobby of mine.
