Increasing Your Awareness of Advertising Best Practices is Crucial to Your Success

[This is a part of the “Getting Started with Blog Advertising” blog series.]

This is a "light bulb" moment.

One of the things that I hope is happening as I outline some strategies to not only make money blogging but to assist in your first venture into advertising on your blog is to simply create more awareness in you as a blogging professional.

It is one of your greatest intangible assets that will serve you well as you grow as a blogger!

By encountering these better practices, thinking about them, and beginning to execute on them on your own properties you will begin to form an opinion about what is essentially “good” and “bad” as it relates to blog advertising.

This is a good and healthy thing as it will help you make decisions better and more effectively long-term.

For example, you’ve learned a few things already about when to start advertising, how much traffic to shoot for before you start advertising, how many ads to start with, and more. As a result you now have an informed opinion about what you need to do to take your advertising to the next level.

So when you bump up against this example of a sidebar that has 18 125 x 125 pixel advertisements in their sidebar that appear to be quite random and unfocused you can, with a bit of authority and confidence, say:

Wow. There are too many advertisements on that sidebar. That’s not very well thought out.

(And that’s the nice way of putting it).

Well, let’s do away with niceties for a moment: That is a ridiculous amount of ads and is offensive to me. It’s too bad since I bet the owner could covert better with fewer and more targeted advertisements.

You awareness (and now opinion) will begin to form, take shape, and matter more as you grow in your knowledge of blog advertising. I feel privileged and honored that you are learning it from me!

Here’s to better advertising on our blogs through greater awareness of best practices!
