I got that text message Monday from my wife regarding our oldest and her “official” first day of hackschool.
I’m so excited about homeschooling you have no idea! The possibility of creating an environment that is infinitely-more engaging than her previous tickles me to bits.
It’s also incredibly satisfying for myself knowing that I’m able to create an experience for her that will be special and unique to the way that she’s been created, that just “works” for her behavioral patterns, her proclivities, and her perspective.
I do not regret my own upbringing nor am I upset about my own schooling experience. I’m just so darn happy that I can create something for my own children in a way that is going to be most beneficial.
And, I love that my wife and I are taking a very open approach to it all, knowing that we’ll probably screw up a lot in this first year. We aren’t “betting the farm” on hackschooling but we’re going to give it the best shot that we can. If it doesn’t work then it doesn’t work.
But we’re up for trying and giving it a serious go. If our daughter can learn and have an incredible time doing it…?
