Box Breathing

I’ve been practicing my “box breathing” exercises a lot these days as I recover from another fun-tastic auto-immune disorder episode which, among many things, elevates my heart rate and breathing to the point of anxiety.

Consequently, in an effort to “slow things down” a bit and (re)gain some semblance of control, I take a moment to just breathe.

More specifically:

  1. Breathe in for 4 seconds…
  2. Hold for 4 seconds…
  3. Breath out for 4 seconds…
  4. Hold for 4 seconds…

And you repeat this until you sufficiently feel more calm and aware and in control. I found a great graphic of this:

This graphic is more like 2-3 seconds, but, try 4!
