Cloud Strife’s Buster Sword Tattoo

So, I went ahead and got some new ink done on my leg and for the first time ever I was able to grab some video of the process.

I captured some of the work being done in one vlog and then the reveal in the next one, which you can see here:

Above (near the end of the vlog) is my visit and my camera died while trying to get some of the time lapse. Oh well.

Below is the reveal. I have a few images as well:

My printout for the concept.

A quick pen-sketch of what the base tattoo would look like:

And then here are the results:

From my hip to my knee, right leg.

The top.

The bottom.

The idea, at a top-level, was to have a photorealistic version of the sword around the hilt and then move down the blade to more of an “incomplete” image, more of a sketch if you will.

I’m very much in love with the idea of things (and people) being “in process” and never fully complete. I think, as I grow as an individual and as a person, I am constantly reminded of how far I’ve come but how much farther I still have to go.

This is why my High School Yearbook quote was simple this: Kaizen.

Black and White.

Sid Cout was the artist and did a great job:
