Centralized Services: You Give Up Privacy

At one point about two years ago, Return Path employees read about 8,000 unredacted emails to help train the company’s software, people familiar with the episode say.

That sucks.

Privacy is (almost) a thing of the past in the digital landscape. If you sign up for centralized services you give up privacy in return; that’s just the way it is.

Now, decentralized services… there are a ton of new opportunities to do this “right” – I’m excited to see many of them come online in the next few years.

This is particularly an interesting space for myself because I find myself working on a centralized / decentralized service called Yen. How one is to balance privacy and utility is going to be a fun challenge.
