Building anything requires communication (even if you’re doing it solo).
And, not unsurprisingly, the larger the project the more effective and fluid communication you need.
What I’ve learned, though, is that the tools that you decide to use can only do their best to simply enhance and reflect the styles of communication that you, as a person, already execute against.
Meaning, if you’re a poor communicator then any tool that you use will make that even more obvious and explicit. If you have a habit of communicating well and frequently, then, your tool(s) of choice will help make that even more apparent.
Technology, very rarely, is able to disguise dysfunction – it all eventually comes into the light. So, it’s not whether you use SMS, email, or Slack, or whatever else you choose… it’s about the fundamentals.
