One of my goals with Pressgram is to democratize the ability for creative content creators to take full advantage of their work’s value and commoditizing it for the general public.
In other words, I’d love to close the gap between the creator and the consumer by streamlining the transactional layer as best as possible. How do I plan on doing this? I’m not entirely sure although you can bet that I’ve got a few ideas that are up my sleeve.
And it’s not as crazy as an idea as it might sound as users are already using the other gram as a digital storefront. For example, this artist/musician from Kuwait is using it explicitly in that way:
BR: Kuwait is a crazy mix: a super-affluent country, yet basically a welfare state, though with a super neo-liberal consumer economy.
FQ: We consume vast amounts of everything. Instagram businesses are a big thing in Kuwait.
BR: What’s an Instagram business?
FQ: If you have an Instagram account, you can slap a price tag on anything, take a picture of it, and sell it. For instance, you could take this can of San Pellegrino, paint it pink, put a heart on it, call it yours, and declare it for sale. Even my grandmother has an Instagram business! She sells dried fruit. A friend’s cousin is selling weird potted plants that use Astroturf. People are creating, you know, hacked products.
That’s unbelievable! But, what if we were to close that loop even more and create a more direct approach to this transaction for the creator and consumer? I think it’s possible and I aim to explore it this coming year.
Heck, there was even an entire expo showcasing people and businesses who were using Instagram as a business:
The Entrepreneurship and Business Club of the American University of Kuwait is holding an “INSTA BUSINESS EXPO” which will consist of all your favorite and newest popular entrepreneurs that grew their businesses through Instagram. Not only that, there will be guest speakers by Entrepreneurs that made it through Instagram as well!
