The story of Zenefits, for me personally, is a stark reminder of the potential for cultural and organizational debt to accrue just as fast as engineering and technical debt but that it’s much more insidious in nature, silently building behind the scenes, and that the consequence and penalty of ignoring can literally destroy the company from within.

Managing cultural debt starts the first day you lay the foundation for a new company. That makes sense because your culture also starts Day #1.

I think about this every single day.
