Former leaders have accused the church of failing to adequately address several allegations against Hybels, including inappropriate comments, private meetings with female staffers in his hotel room and at his home, intrusive hugs, and, in one case, an unwanted kiss.
What’s even more unfortunate (and disappointing) is that the church responded just like most organizations do when faced with something like this: They vilified the accusers, gaslighting them in hopes to bring silence to the situation; they did not do what they should have done nor did they act in accordance with their religious beliefs.
I shouldn’t be surprised.
Absolute power corrupts absolutely and the church and religious leaders are no exception and this is particularly true of men in positions of power.
I await expectantly to hear more stories coming out about not just Willow Creek but other churches as well. We need a culling.
