I love working for a company that believes in a distributed-first work environment and organizational culture! It allows me to work wherever I want, whenever I want, however I want.
Usually, that means I’m at home in my kitchen at my standing desk typing fast (and loudly) via my mechanical keyboard on my larger
27" iMac that I’ve effectively maxed out on the specs:
- 3.6GHz 8-core 9th-generation Intel Core i9 processor, Turbo Boost up to 5.0GHz
- ***128GB 2667MHz DDR4 memory
- 1TB SSD storage
- Radeon Pro Vega 48 with 8GB of HBM2 memory
I manually pushed my
memory block to
128GB which was an infinitely more cost-efficient way of because Apple will charge you another $1,000 for just
64GB when you can spend the same amount for double that after-market!
You just need to be sure you install the right kind for your make/model or you’ll have some problems.
In any case, when I’m traveling I use my
13" MacBook Pro which isn’t something to laugh at either:
- 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7
- 16GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3
- 500GB SSD storage
- Intel Iris Plus Graphics 655 1536MB
This gives me all the power that I need to do all of the business and software work that needs my attention as well as the occasional high-fidelity / intense video work that my vlog might need, although I rarely do any editing outside of my desktop.
The latter device allows me to do my work in many more creative situations and contexts, like, in the chair of my dentist:
Do I recommend that you do this? Probably not. But, I had some important work that I was in the middle of that needed to get done… so, that’s what I did. I appreciate the staff helping take a few pics—they couldn’t stop laughing at me.
(I didn’t find anything necessarily funny about this situation though…)
I love the flexibility of my work—I’ll never go back. Hell, I am the office at this point in time, right?
