I love this original sales pitch via Jack Ma back in 1999; although short, it’s completely inspiring:
I love this:
If we are a good team and know what we want to do, one of us can defeat ten of them.
The dream of the internet won’t burst. We will have to pay painful price in the next 3 to 5 years, it is the only way we can succeed.
Amen and amen.
As I lead a small group of folks I think about the same types of things. I think of the overwhelming odds stacked against a small startup compared to the resources that the larger organizations have. I think of how a focused and motivated team can overcome those odds and that we have enough models to know that the work is not complete folly.
And, I know that the “dream of the internet” will not burst. There’s a ton of new, exciting opportunities that are available to us, especially in “frontier tech,” the very things that are truly bleeding edge (i.e. blockchain and bitcoin).
I like Jack Ma and his leadership for nearly 20 years. It’s unbelievable how much conviction he had so early into the Alibaba years. More specifically, he gave this speech to his 17 friends within months of him founding Alibaba back in 1999.
