Liberland is a micronation that has claimed 2.7 square miles (7km²) of uninhabited (and disputed) land on the western bank of the Danube, between Croatia and Serbia.

It is, in effect, a new country although it hasn’t been yet recognized by any country in the United Nations.

What’s most exciting is that it was founded on decentralized principles, although the wikipedia article doesn’t really mention those types of things directly.

Citizenship? Yes.

There’s a lot to still be figured out for the Free Republic of Liberland… but, I think there’s a lot of opportunity and it is certainly an exciting time.
