Yo… that Michelle Obama though…:
“That whole, ‘So you can have it all.’ Nope, not at the same time,” she said. “That’s a lie. And it’s not always enough to lean in, because that shit doesn’t work all the time.”via The Guardian
Here, Obama is openly criticizing the “lean in” philosophy of feminism that Sheryl Sandberg, the COO of Facebook, has constantly espoused. And… Michelle is right, by the way as it’s almost nothing more than an aspirational idea that can create more harm than good.
And sheesh… she would know, right? Being the wife to the President while being a mom and role model for… women worldwide. At least, that’s what I think.
One of the things that we’re teaching our children is that life is more often about compromise than concession – most of the time you have to give up something to gain something in return and the decision making process that one employs is just as important as the outcome.
And sometimes the process is actually more important than the end result because it ultimately betrays (or reveals) what one really believes and their true motives.
No, you can’t have it all, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t have an incredibly-fulfilling and rewarding life. And no, more money won’t make more of these things possible either – that shit doesn’t work.
