Rough Design, Feature Concepts for Version 2.0

Here’s a look at some rough concepts that I’ve created for version 2.0.

As I’ve mentioned previously in my post covering loosely the Roadmap for continued development (which has already evolved a ton) the next iteration of the app is going to be nutso-amazing (i.e. amazeballs). It’ll really fulfill the big list of features that I had personally wanted to include in my “perfect” image editing and image sharing app but didn’t have time to put in for version 1.

I’ll provide a bit of context for some of these concepts as you can see below:

The goal here is to have full-resolution/scale images (portrait and landscape) options for your images and that we’ll showcase them in a very attractive full-width style format in your feed. I like squares but I know that there are times where I’d much rather keep the original non-square image for sharing and posting.

Now we’ll be able to do just that! In addition, placement of meta information is better and more intuitive as well as a better way to showcase the images. I’m even thinking about touch-zoom to look at more details of each image for a much more immersive experience.

In addition, the Explore page will showcase a much more dynamic feed since the images will no longer be just square. You’ll also have a larger focus on not just the images but also the user, so I’ve redone the side tray and enlarged the avatar area to make things a bit easier to navigate.

“Invite” and “find” friends from social networks is something that I’m exploring so we can expand the network in a number of ways. The more people are using Pressgram the better (although I’m not interested in seeing SELFIE-ALL-THE-THINGS and DUCKFACES everywhere).

Hopefully we’ll continue to grow and expand the network with like-minded creators who love what they do and aren’t interested in taking pictures of themselves all the time.

Advanced editing features are coming up including scaling of filters, refined editing controls for size, coloration, and more as well as including text over the images (with color choices!). This is an ever-expanding list and I’m super-excited about what I’ve planned! I’ll just leave it as that… but you can be sure that it’s going to be awesome.

Finally, I have some other meta-level changes that’ll give more control to publishing such as being able to set different titles, tags, and categories per blog instead of having the same meta information for all the blogs that you publish to. Although most users are just publishing to one blog at the current time I’m sure this will become much more utilized as our community expands.

These are just a few things I’m planning for version 2.0 and I couldn’t be more excited about starting to lay some code down to implement them! First, though, version 1.3 needs to be reviewed and approved by Apple (maybe tomorrow…!?) and version 1.4 needs to be finalized in the next 2-4 weeks.

Tons of work but well worth it!

Anything else you’d like to see in a major version 2.0 release?
